What employers in the Philippines expect on a resume
The 2x2 photo is common, not required
Many Filipino resumes still carry a 2x2 formal photo, and some job ads ask for one. It is not required, so unless the ad asks, the choice is yours. If you use one, make it recent, in business attire, against a plain light background.
Birthday, civil status and religion are optional
The Anti-Age Discrimination in Employment Act (RA 10911) bars employers from requiring your age or birth date during the application process, with narrow exceptions such as jobs where age is a genuine occupational qualification. Civil status, religion, height and weight are rarely needed either, unless the ad asks. Your name, mobile number, email and city are enough.
Keep SSS, TIN, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG numbers off
Government ID numbers do not belong on a resume you send to many employers and upload to job portals. Employers collect them after the offer, together with the rest of your pre-employment requirements such as your NBI clearance.
Fresh graduates: your OJT counts
List your OJT under experience with the company, your role and what you handled, then your degree, school, year and any Latin honors. Seminars, trainings and campus organization roles fill the rest of a one-page resume. Swap 'To obtain a challenging position' for an objective that names the job and one real strength.
Show your licenses and certificates
If you passed a board exam, add the license under certifications with the PRC as the issuer and the year you passed, for example 'Registered Nurse, PRC, 2024'. List TESDA National Certificates such as Customer Services NC II with the year, and your civil service eligibility if you apply to government.
Applying abroad: make a Gulf version
For jobs in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar, switch to A4 and add 'Filipino' as your nationality, your city and country, a visa line such as 'Requires employment visa', a +63 number on WhatsApp and when you can join. A professional photo is common there. Cut height, weight, religion and long lists of character references, and mention any previous Gulf experience in your summary.

Resume questions from the Philippines
Should I put a 2x2 picture on my resume?
Only when it helps. Many local employers are used to one and some ask for it in the ad, while others do not expect it. For Gulf jobs a photo is common. If you add one, use a recent formal photo with a plain light background. In CVFalcon you can add or remove the photo before each download.
Do I need to put my birthday and civil status on my resume?
No. Under RA 10911, employers may not require your age or birth date during the application process, apart from narrow exceptions such as jobs where age is a genuine occupational qualification. Civil status is optional too. Leave both off unless an application form asks for them.
Short bond paper, long bond paper or A4?
Short bond paper, which is the same size as US Letter (8.5 by 11 inches), is the everyday choice for local employers. A4 suits the Gulf and most countries abroad. CVFalcon downloads in either size but does not offer long bond paper (8.5 by 13 inches).
What is the difference between a biodata, a resume and a CV?
A biodata focuses on personal details such as birth date, civil status and religion, and you may still be asked for one, especially by government offices. A resume is one or two pages on your skills, experience and education, and it is what most private employers expect. A CV is the longer record used for academic and research roles, though many people here use CV and resume for the same document.
What do I send for a government job?
Government job postings usually ask for the Civil Service Commission's Personal Data Sheet (PDS, CS Form No. 212) on the official form, plus the documents listed in the posting. Follow that list exactly. Keep your resume up to date for private employers and jobs abroad.
How do I make a resume for work abroad?
Match the country you are applying to. For the Gulf, use A4 and add your nationality, the visa you need and when you can join; a professional photo is common there. For the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, leave off the photo, birth date and civil status. The same templates work for both, and you choose the paper size before you download.
