What employers in Indonesia expect on a CV
Translate your qualifications, not just the words
Recruiters abroad and at multinationals may not know SMA, SMK or S1. Write Senior High School, Vocational High School or Bachelor's degree, and give your IPK as a GPA with a decimal point, for example 'GPA 3.77/4.00'.
Keep your NIK, date of birth and full address off
Your NIK can be misused if your CV reaches the wrong hands, and your date of birth is part of it. If an ad or form asks for your age, your birth year is enough. Give your city or area, such as 'Surabaya' or 'Jabodetabek', and leave religion, blood type, height and weight off unless the ad asks.
A photo depends on the application
Many Indonesian CVs carry a photo and recruiters here are used to seeing one, but it is not required. Leave it off when you apply through job portals and large employers that screen with ATS software, and add a recent formal headshot with a plain background when the ad asks for one.
CV ATS: plain layout, the ad's own words
Whether you call it a CV ATS or a Harvard-style CV, it comes down to a plain layout: standard headings such as Experience, Education and Skills, your newest role first and no text inside images. Use the job ad's own words for skills and job titles, and write each abbreviation out in full once.
Fresh graduates: internships and organisations count
With little work history, put education first, then internships, campus organisations, committees and volunteering, each with what you did and what came of it. The Campus template leads with education, and one A4 page is enough for most fresh graduates.
Jobs abroad: follow the destination
In the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar a photo is common, and recruiters look for your nationality and a line such as 'Based in Jakarta, requires employment visa'. Australian and UK employers do not expect a photo, your date of birth or your marital status, so write for the country you apply to.

Indonesian CV questions
Should I write my CV in English or Indonesian?
Follow the language of the job ad. Multinational companies, foreign employers and jobs abroad usually expect English, and an English CV shows your English at the same time. A local company that advertises in Indonesian is fine with an Indonesian CV. CVFalcon does not offer Indonesian section headings, so it is best suited to the English version.
What is a CV ATS?
It is a CV that applicant tracking systems can read: real text rather than an image, standard headings, newest experience first and the keywords from the job ad. CVFalcon templates keep all your text selectable and in a sensible order, with nothing inside images. For the plainest result, choose a clean template from the Professional collection and leave the photo off.
Should I put a photo on my CV?
It is common in Indonesia but not required. Skip it for ATS applications through job portals and large employers, and use a recent formal headshot against a plain background when an ad asks for one. Since the photo in CVFalcon is optional, you can add it for one application and remove it for the next.
Do I need my date of birth, religion or marital status on my CV?
Usually not. Many Indonesian CVs still list them, but they say nothing about your skills, and your NIK should never go on a CV. If an ad or form asks for your age, your birth year is enough. A Ministry of Manpower circular from May 2025 also tells employers not to use discriminatory requirements in recruitment, including age limits the job does not need. CVFalcon has no fields for these details, so they stay off unless you type them in.
A4 or F4 for a CV?
A4. It is the usual size for a CV in Indonesia and the international standard, so your PDF looks right to employers here and abroad. CVFalcon downloads on A4 by default, and you can switch to US Letter for employers in the US and Canada.
How long should my CV be?
One A4 page for most fresh graduates, and up to two for experienced candidates. Recruiters read many CVs a day, so put the detail into your recent, relevant roles and keep older ones brief.
