Made for the way Australian employers read resumes

Work rights in one line

The optional visa status field holds a short line such as 'Permanent resident' or 'Temporary Graduate visa, full work rights', so the recruiter's first question is answered. Leave it empty if you are a citizen.

Import, then edit

Upload your current resume or CV as a PDF or Word file and the form fills in for you to review. Most of the work becomes editing, not typing.

Clean text for job boards and ATS

Every template is real, selectable text in a normal reading order, so job boards and applicant tracking systems read every line. A4 by default, the Australian standard.

What Australian employers expect on a resume

01

Resume and CV mean the same thing

Most Australian employers say resume, and many use CV for the same document. The academic CV is the exception, used for research and university roles, and it runs longer.

02

Leave off photo, age and marital status

Photos are not expected, and anti-discrimination law covers age, sex, race, marital or relationship status and more, so employers prefer not to see them. Name, phone, email, suburb or city and a LinkedIn profile are enough.

03

Two to three pages is common

Australian resumes often run a little longer than American ones: two to three pages for experienced candidates, one or two for graduates. Keep the most relevant work on page one.

04

State your work rights

If you are not an Australian citizen, say what your visa allows, for example 'Permanent resident, full work rights' or 'Working Holiday visa, available until March 2027'. Employers ask early, and a clear line saves a call.

05

Referees and checks

Many Australian resumes end with two referees, usually recent managers who have agreed to be contacted; 'Referees available on request' is also accepted. For teaching, childcare and care work, list current checks such as a Working with Children Check.

Australian resume questions

Resume or CV in Australia?

Both words are used, usually for the same document: a two to three page summary of your experience, skills and education. An academic CV for university and research roles is longer and lists publications and grants.

How long should an Australian resume be?

Two to three pages for most experienced candidates, and one to two for graduates. If yours runs longer, shorten older roles to title, employer and dates.

Should I include referees?

Many candidates list two referees with their permission, and 'Referees available on request' is also fine. Either way, tell your referees they may be called.

What about government jobs?

Public sector applications often ask for a separate statement or pitch that addresses the role's selection criteria, alongside your resume. Follow the format in the job pack exactly.

Is CVFalcon free to use?

Building and previewing your resume is free in every template, with no sign-up. Downloading the PDF requires the CVFalcon Pass: $9 once, with unlimited downloads and no subscription.
